The Huskies varsity boys basketball team hosted the third ranked St. Thomas Academy Cadets on Tuesday in a non-conference match up. The Huskies were a bit undermanned due to injury but looked forward to testing their mettle against the visitors.
The game started out well for the Huskies as they broke out to an early 7-6 lead. Unfortunately, that would be the highlight of the night as the Cadets went on a 20-2 run to lead 26-9 and would cruise to a 46-24 lead at the break. The second half was a bit closer but the Huskies could not muster the firepower to get back into the game and fell by the final score of 84-53.
Tait Nelson led the Huskies with 25 points and 4 assists, while Mickey Jah added 11 points. Drew Nelson scored 6 and was the Huskies’ leading rebounder with 6 boards. Derek Hergenrader earned his first varsity start and overcame a shaky start to finish with 4 points.
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Farmington to take on the Tigers.
