When it rains, it pours, and today the deluge was all Park Center as the Huskies drowned 11-0 today in a 5-inning ten-run rule at Palm Field today.
Not a lot went right for St. Anthony today, as the Huskies spotted the Pirates four unearned runs in the first three innings with defensive lapses and errant throws. At the same time, Park Center kept their foot on the gas and didn’t allow St. Anthony an easy base.
Despite leadoff hits in the first by Senior Aaron Smith and in the fourth by Senior Lucas Roessler-Caram, each time the comeback was thwarted when the Pirates turned double plays in both innings to crush the rallies. And Senior Tyler Stopera was busy behind the dish today, throwing out three Park Center runners on the basepaths; but the defensive miscues were too much to overcome .
At the same time, the Huskies hit the ball hard all over the yard, but it was just one of those days, where there happened to be a Park Center fielder right in the way each time.
Roessler-Caram was a bright spot at the plate, as he accounted for two of St. Anthony’s four hits on the day. And Senior Jack Van Patter was good in relief of the starter Senior Sully Jahnke, with Van Patter facing seven batters, striking out two.
St. Anthony will need to regroup tomorrow and looks to break their two-game skid on Friday evening against St. Croix Lutheran at Harmon Park in West St. Paul. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30pm.
