The SAVCC teams took part in the 67th annual Swain Invitational at Enger Golf Course in Duluth on Saturday, Oct. 6th. In what turned out to be a muddy day, the Huskies came away with some solid results against some of the top competition in the state. The mud proved to be both fun and challenging. The fun part was getting dirty in the mud, some runners even put ‘war-paint’ on their faces with it. The challenging part was trying not to fall in the slippery spots of mud that were all over the course (many failed at their attempts).
In the boys varsity race the team came away with an 18th place finish out of 24 teams. The Huskies were led by Joe Lynch, Tait Nelson, Drew Nelson, James Frigstad, and Andy Groebner, who were the scoring runners for SAV. The boys varsity race was the last event of the day, so by the time the boys raced the course was complete mud, making for some messy uniforms and slower times!
In the girls varsity race Anna Manson, Natalie Zielsdorf, Laura Carter, Brynn Bossen, and Fina Mooney all were scoring runners for the team, leading to an 11th place finish out of 20 teams.
In the boys JV race the team finished 14th out of 20 with Remy Carre leading the way for the team. In the girls JV race Samantha Solboe, in her first 5k, led the team to a 5th place finish out of 13 teams.
The Huskies are not back in action until Tuesday, Oct 17 when they travel to Battle Creek Park for the Tri-Metro Conference Championships. CLICK HERE for more information.
