St Anthony Village High School
Delano High School
When it rains, it pours. Tonight the deluge came not from the sky but from Delano batters as the Tigers drowned St. Anthony 11-0 in 6 innings as part of the Delano Wood Bat Tourney.
Things started fine for the Huskies, who were the home team by coin flip, holding the Tigers scoreless through two, and Junior Nick Zezulka finding his way aboard as St. Anthony’s leadoff batter. And while he moved to third base on back to back groundouts, the key RBI never came. And that was the last time the Huskies threatened on the day.
Instead, St. Anthony found themselves searching for cover in the top of the third. Delano scored seven runs on only two hits, taking advantage of three Huskies errors and four walks and one hit batter. When the flood subsided, the Tigers were in complete control and St. Anthony looking for the life vests.
The Tigers would add four more in the top of the sixth to ice the game due to the ten run rule, as the Huskies couldn’t answer in the bottom of the frame.
Zezulka was a bright spot for the Huskies, going 2-for-2 at the plate, and coming on in relief to spell starter Junior Nick Fredrikson, who gave up 6 runs but only three earned, and on only 2 hits. Junior Tyler Stopera added another single for St. Anthony on the day.
Not much time for the Huskies to lick their wounds, as St. Anthony will play again in the next round of the Delano Tournament Saturday morning at 9am, playing either St. James or Kasson-Mantorville. The 9am start is new and due to weather; follow Twitter for updates as to the schedule as more rain- this time hopefully from the clouds only- is expected.
