St Anthony Village High School
The Huskies boys varsity basketball team hosted the Governors of St. Paul Johnson on Wednesday night in the first round of section playoffs.
This was the first time in several years the boys hosted a playoff game and were greeted with a great atmosphere for the game. Unfortunately, the visitors came out fired up and with much more energy than the host team. The Governors used this energy to stake out an early 10 point lead. The Huskies could not muster a run to answer and saw the lead stretch to 21 at the half time break as they found themselves in a 43-22 hole.
The boys fought back in the second half but the deficit was too large to overcome. They could get no closer than 8 points before they had to start fouling and the Johnson players made their free throws to extend the lead to the final score of 74-62.
Tait Nelson led the charge with 23 points and Aaron Smith added in 22. Unfortunately, this game marked the final high school game in the careers of four outstanding young men. Sam Anderson, Dan Carpenter, Rhys Langums, and Sam Larson gave their all for four years to help build the program to where it is today. They will be missed next year!
The Huskies end their season with a record of 19-8.
